Purple Sky Vol. 1: Talking to the Moon

I’m a sucker for any and all poetry. This book has been sitting in my Kindle library for a while now, but I’ve finally gotten around to reading it and I’m glad I did. Talking to the Moon by Marie K. Ricci is the first volume in their Purple Sky series. To be honest, it had just the vibe I was looking for with its extremely relatable content. Here’s my review:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Have you ever been in love? Have you ever thought to yourself that this was the one, my person, only to find out later down the road that not everything was sunshine and rainbows? I’ve been there and I think most people have had some sort of experience with a narcissist in their life. It could’ve been an ex, a current relationship, a parent, even a friend. This book speaks to all of that and more.

Talking to the Moon by Marie K. Ricci

Even though this is a book of poetry, it felt like I was reading one diary entry after another. It was like, I was reading all the good days where you’re being love bombed and then I’d read all the bad days where you’re being gaslit. It was the expected roller coaster of emotions that I’ve had my share of experiencing with a previous ex-boyfriend. The comparison was uncanny. Obviously, the author has had a very similar experience.

However, even through all the pain and heartbreak, you’d read an entry where you could tell the author was slowly healing from that trauma. Where they were learning to live without that other person in their life. It was slow, but it was uplifting. It was like receiving a warm hug from someone telling you that everything was going to be okay even though you might feel like losing hope.

Overall, I think it’s a good book to read on a rainy day. I’d like to thank the author for giving readers a glimpse into their life. Poetry is such a personal topic, and it’s brave authors like Ricci that allow us a glimpse into their life.
