It’s been awhile since I’ve worked on a new project in regards to writing. I blame my burnout from attempting NaNoWriMo one year, but that’s another story. No pun intended. But for this new WIP, I’m going back to my roots and using my platform on Inkitt for my launch. In fact, a lot has changed on Inkitt over the years since I’ve taken a step back that I think are very beneficial for small writers like myself.
However, this is a post to celebrate my return and I’m hoping to return in a more impactful way than before. My new work is titled Infectious. It’s a post-apocalyptic horror with an element of romance. I’ve never ventured into this genre before that borderlines science fiction, but it’s a challenge I want to take on. Here’s my working synopsis:
Wren Gallagher was among the first to become infected in an effort to save her sister and boyfriend from a destructive virus that turned the world into a wasteland. Rounded up for a government experiment over 4 years later, Wren receives a trial cure to her affliction, but once rehabilitated, she can never leave.
With the retention of some of their infected abilities, the rehabilitated are forced to enlist as government soldiers assigned to units with special instructions to protect and provide test subjects to expert science teams. The goal: perfect the cure and create a viable vaccine for the future. Sergeant Shelley, a ruthless man, is in charge of operations and, to his dismay, Wren. While tension rises between the unlikely duo with each mission they face, a rebellion brews among the purists and the rehabilitated placing the safe zones at risk. As the remaining forces arm themselves against the imminent threat, the success of Wren’s team may be the only way to ensure the survival of mankind.
If you’d like to read Infectious, it’s currently available on Inkitt. Chapters will post every Wednesday by 5 PM EST. I’ll try to edit it as much as possible, but since it’s a work-in-progress there may be minor grammatical mistakes. Just know that when I’ve completed it, I’ll head back to fully edit. Happy reading!
